Oregon's construction lien law is ORS chapter 87; public contract bonds are in ORS chapter 279C. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Notice of right to a lien

Suppliers of materials, equipment, services or labor who did not contract with the owner must give a notice of right to a lien. It protects only what was provided from eight business days before the notice is delivered or mailed (ORS 87.021).

Perfecting the lien

Original contractors and other claimants who provide labor, equipment or materials must file a claim of lien with the county recording officer no later than 75 days after they stopped providing it or 75 days after completion of construction, whichever is earlier (ORS 87.035).

Suing

A lien binds the property for only 120 days after the claim is filed unless suit is brought within that time (ORS 87.055).

Public works

Liens do not attach to public property. A claimant on a public contract may sue on the contractor's payment bond only after sending written notice of claim, by registered or certified mail or hand delivery, no later than 180 days after last providing labor or materials (ORS 279C.600, 279C.605).
